Published: 09/25/2026 (09/25/2026, 15:40:45 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: DALIBO
Product: PostgreSQL Anonymizer

Description

PostgreSQL Anonymizer contains a vulnerability that allows unprivileged masked users to repeatedly call the anon.hash() function and collects (seed, hash_output) pairs to perform an offline brute-force attack and deduce the salt. A masked role can run a RESTRICTED function when the call is placed inside the sub-select. The problem is resolved in PostgreSQL Anonymizer 3.2.3 and later versions

Technical Analysis

The PostgreSQL Anonymizer product from DALIBO has a vulnerability (CVE-2026-97469) where unprivileged masked users can repeatedly invoke the anon.hash() function to gather (seed, hash_output) pairs. This enables an offline brute-force attack to deduce the salt used in hashing. The vulnerability arises because a masked role can execute a RESTRICTED function within a sub-select call. The issue is resolved in PostgreSQL Anonymizer version 3.2.3 and later.

Potential Impact

An attacker with masked user privileges can perform offline brute-force attacks to deduce the salt used in the anon.hash() function. This could weaken the anonymization process by allowing partial recovery of hashed data. The CVSS score of 4.3 indicates a medium severity impact with limited confidentiality impact and no integrity or availability impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade PostgreSQL Anonymizer to version 3.2.3 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
