AI-suggested

The vulnerability has been fixed in Linux kernel versions 6.6.158, 6.12.111, 6.12, and 6.13. Users and administrators should upgrade to these or later kernel versions to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated or required.

Description

A one-byte out-of-bounds (OOB) read vulnerability in the Linux kernel's SMB client was fixed in the smb2_parse_native_symlink() function. The flaw occurred when parsing share-root relative native symlinks, where memcpy read one byte beyond the allocated buffer, causing a KASAN slab-out-of-bounds error. This issue affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to their respective fixed releases.
