A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel after version 5.11. Users and administrators should update their Linux kernel to a version that includes the fix identified by the commits listed in the established facts. No additional mitigations are specified by the vendor advisory.
Description
CVE-2026-98374 is a high severity use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's TCP implementation. It occurs in the tcp_send_synack() function when a cloned SYN skb is replaced and the retransmit_skb_hint pointer is left dangling, pointing to freed memory. An unprivileged TCP Fast Open (TFO) client can exploit this by sending a crafted ICMP fragmentation-needed message, leading to a use-after-free condition and potential kernel crash or code execution. This flaw affects Linux kernel version 5.11 and has been fixed in subsequent commits.
