A fix for this vulnerability is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel after version 2.6.12 in the listed commits. Users and administrators should update their Linux kernel to a fixed version to mitigate this issue. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official patch.
Description
CVE-2026-98548 is a critical use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel SCTP implementation. It occurs when processing a bundled packet containing an ERROR chunk with a stale cookie from a non-primary address, leading to removal of transports still referenced by the packet. This causes a dangling pointer dereference later in SCTP processing, potentially allowing an attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a kernel crash. The issue affects Linux kernel version 2.6.12 and has been fixed in subsequent commits. The vulnerability requires no privileges and can be triggered by a malicious SCTP peer.
