A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel via multiple commits. Users should update their Linux kernel to a fixed version incorporating these patches to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigations are specified or required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
CVE-2026-99235 is a high-severity use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's tracing subsystem. The flaw arises because the kernel saves a pointer to a compatible histogram instead of the event file, which can be freed prematurely, leading to a kernel slab-use-after-free error. This issue was fixed by changing the code to save the event file pointer instead, preventing invalid memory access when triggers are removed.
