Description

CVE-2026-8806 is a high-severity vulnerability in all versions of the Mitsubishi Electric MELSEC iQ-F Series FX5-ENET/IP Ethernet Module. It allows a remote attacker to cause a denial-of-service (DoS) by flooding the Ethernet port with a large number of packets in a short time. This overload prevents the module's internal anomaly-detection processing, leading to a communication function failure.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-440: Expected Behavior Violation) affects all versions of the Mitsubishi Electric MELSEC iQ-F Series FX5-ENET/IP Ethernet Module. An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit it by sending a high volume of communication packets rapidly to the Ethernet port. The resulting processing overload disables the module's anomaly-detection mechanisms and causes the communication function to stop, effectively causing a denial-of-service condition. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 8.7, reflecting high severity with network attack vector, no privileges or user interaction required, and high impact on availability.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in denial-of-service by stopping the communication function of the affected Ethernet module. This disrupts normal operation and could impact industrial control processes relying on this device. No information about data confidentiality or integrity impact is provided.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or fix is currently available for this vulnerability. Since the affected product is not a cloud service, remediation depends on vendor updates. Users should monitor the vendor's advisory channels for any forthcoming patches or mitigations. Until a fix is released, limiting network exposure of the affected module and implementing network-level protections (e.g., rate limiting, filtering) may help reduce risk.
