httpd security update (CVE-2026-58415)
Description
Multiple critical vulnerabilities affect Apache HTTP Server versions from 2.4.0 through 2.4.68. These include unauthorized access to internal state files in mod_dav_fs, out-of-bounds write on Windows, improper privilege management in mod_ssl, FTP PASV reply address validation issues in mod_proxy_ftp, stack-based buffer overflow in mod_vhost_alias, NULL pointer dereference in mod_xml2enc, HTTP request smuggling via mod_proxy_uwsgi, path equivalence issues in mod_userdir, and integer overflow in mod_dav_fs. All these issues are fixed in version 2.4.69. Users are strongly recommended to upgrade to 2.4.69 to address these critical security flaws.

Technical Analysis
Apache HTTP Server versions 2.4.0 through 2.4.68 are affected by multiple vulnerabilities: CVE-2026-58415 allows remote clients to read WebDAV dead properties via mod_dav_fs; CVE-2026-59685 is an out-of-bounds write on Windows related to 8.3 path name expansion; CVE-2026-59797 involves improper privilege management in mod_ssl; CVE-2026-63045 allows an untrusted FTP server to cause the proxy to open connections to arbitrary hosts via mod_proxy_ftp; CVE-2026-63292 is a stack-based buffer overflow in mod_vhost_alias triggered by oversized Host headers; CVE-2026-63686 causes denial of service via NULL pointer dereference in mod_xml2enc; CVE-2026-63718 is an HTTP request smuggling vulnerability in mod_proxy_uwsgi; CVE-2026-79768 involves path equivalence issues in mod_userdir; and CVE-2026-93546 is an integer overflow in mod_dav_fs causing worker crashes and directory property database corruption. All these vulnerabilities are resolved in Apache HTTP Server 2.4.69.
Potential Impact
These vulnerabilities collectively allow remote attackers to read unauthorized internal state files, cause denial of service conditions, potentially execute arbitrary code, escalate privileges improperly, manipulate proxy connections to arbitrary hosts, and corrupt server data. The CVSS score of 9.8 reflects critical impact with high confidentiality, integrity, and availability consequences. Exploitation could lead to unauthorized data disclosure, service disruption, and remote code execution.
Mitigation Recommendations
An official fix is available in Apache HTTP Server version 2.4.69. Users should upgrade to this version to remediate all listed vulnerabilities. There are no vendor advisories indicating that no action is required or that the issues are already mitigated. Immediate upgrade is the recommended mitigation.
