Description

A vulnerability in the GridFS component of the MongoDB Rust Driver allows improper neutralization of special elements in data query logic. This flaw causes a caller-supplied structured file identifier to be interpreted as a query condition instead of a literal identifier. An authenticated user who can influence the identifier may access stored file content beyond the intended target or delete all GridFS file chunks in the affected bucket, making stored content unreadable.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-88024 describes an improper neutralization of special elements in the GridFS component of the MongoDB Rust Driver. The vulnerability arises because the driver treats a caller-supplied structured file identifier as a query condition rather than a literal value. This allows an authenticated user with control over the identifier to either retrieve unauthorized stored file content or cause deletion of all file chunks in the GridFS bucket, impacting confidentiality, integrity, and availability of stored files.

Potential Impact

An authenticated user who can influence the file identifier passed to the affected application may obtain access to stored file content beyond what is intended, violating confidentiality. Additionally, the user may cause deletion of all GridFS file chunks in the bucket, resulting in loss of availability and integrity of stored files.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided at this time. Until a patch is available, restrict authenticated user privileges to prevent manipulation of file identifiers passed to GridFS operations.
