AI-suggested

Proper deployment and enforcement of OSPFv3 authentication trailers (RFC 7166) is recommended to prevent full exploitation. Monitor vendor advisories for updates or patches addressing destination address validation in OSPFv3 packets.

Description

FRRouting's OSPFv3 implementation in all prior released versions does not properly verify that OSPFv3 packets use a link-local source address and a link-local or multicast destination address. This flaw may allow remote IPv6 hosts to establish OSPFv3 adjacencies unexpectedly. Use of OSPFv3 authentication trailers mitigates full exploitation but may still allow CPU resource exhaustion through authentication checks.
