Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's SysV IPC ID allocation was resolved by limiting the next_id allocation to the valid ID range. The issue occurs in the checkpoint/restore sysctl path where an open-ended upper bound allows allocation beyond the valid IPC ID range, causing IDR state corruption and potential use-after-free scenarios when accessing /proc/sysvipc/shm. This can lead to memory corruption and system instability. Red Hat has issued a security advisory with a kernel update to fix this issue.
