Description

JeecgBoot versions through 3.9.5 have a missing authorization vulnerability that permits low-privileged authenticated users to create message templates by sending a POST request to /sys/message/sysMessageTemplate/add. This allows attackers with minimal roles to insert arbitrary notification templates into the shared sys_sms_template library used for system, email, SMS, and IM notifications. The vulnerability has a medium severity with a CVSS score of 4.3.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in JeecgBoot up to version 3.9.5 is due to missing authorization checks on the endpoint POST /sys/message/sysMessageTemplate/add. This flaw enables low-privileged authenticated users to create arbitrary message templates in the shared sys_sms_template repository, which is utilized for various notification types including system, email, SMS, and instant messaging. The issue is classified under CWE-862 (Missing Authorization). No patch or remediation details are provided in the available data.

Potential Impact

An attacker with low-level authenticated access can insert arbitrary notification templates into the system's shared template library. This could lead to unauthorized modification of notification content, potentially enabling phishing or social engineering attacks via system, email, SMS, or IM notifications. There is no indication of direct confidentiality or availability impact. The overall impact is limited to integrity of notification templates.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the affected endpoint to trusted users only and monitor for unauthorized template creation attempts.
