AI-suggested

The vulnerability arises because validation occurs after the clone operation, so applications should avoid passing untrusted or attacker-controlled paths to create_submodule. If using version 3.2.0 or later, be aware that the function raises a ValueError after cloning, but the malicious hook remains. Until an official fix is released, users should manually verify and clean the .git/hooks directory after submodule creation and avoid automated submodule creation from untrusted sources. Monitor vendor advisories for updates and patches addressing this issue.

Description

Kimi CLI's GitPython integration has a vulnerability where the submodule creation function clones a submodule into the repository's .git/hooks directory before validating the path. This allows an attacker to plant an executable hook file that runs on subsequent git operations, leading to arbitrary code execution. Versions from 3.1.x through 3.2.0+ are affected, with 3.1.x silently planting the hook and 3.2.0+ raising a ValueError only after the hook is already written to disk.
