AI-suggested

A fix is available in opentelemetry-api version 1.50.0. Users should upgrade to this version or later to resolve the issue. Until upgraded, users may consider limiting the maximum allowed size of tracestate headers at the server or proxy level to mitigate the risk. The vendor advisory confirms the availability of an official fix.

Description

A regular expression used in OpenTelemetry Python's TraceState.from_header method causes quadratic CPU time complexity when parsing large tracestate headers containing long runs of spaces or tabs without commas. This can lead to significant processing delays and blocking of other connections in asynchronous servers. The issue affects versions from 1.0.0 through 1.49.x and is fixed in version 1.50.0.
