AI-suggested
A patch is available and users should update their systems to the fixed package versions listed in the Ubuntu advisory USN-8245-1. After updating, a system reboot is required to apply all changes. Due to an ABI change in the kernel update, all third-party kernel modules must be recompiled and reinstalled. Following these steps will mitigate the vulnerabilities including CVE-2024-36347.
Description
Multiple security vulnerabilities were discovered in the Linux kernel, including a critical flaw (CVE-2024-36347) affecting some AMD Zen processors where CPU microcode signature verification is improper. This flaw, known as EntrySign, could allow a privileged attacker to load malicious CPU microcode, leading to loss of system integrity and confidentiality. The update addresses numerous other security issues across a wide range of kernel subsystems and drivers. Fixes are available in specific linux-azure-6.17 and linux-oem-6.17 package versions. Users are advised to update and reboot to apply these fixes.
