Description

The npm package 'true' versions 0.0.1 through 0.0.4 contains malicious code that compromises any computer on which it is installed. The presence of this package indicates a full system compromise, requiring immediate rotation of all secrets and keys from a separate, secure machine. Technical Analysis

The 'true' npm package versions 0.0.1 to 0.0.4 is identified as containing malicious code that fully compromises affected systems. Installation or execution of this package grants attackers full control over the host computer. Due to the severity of the compromise, all sensitive credentials stored on the system should be rotated immediately from a different, uncompromised device. Simply uninstalling the package does not ensure removal of all malicious artifacts or backdoors introduced by the attacker.

Potential Impact

Systems with the 'true' package installed are considered fully compromised, allowing attackers complete control. This includes potential unauthorized access to all stored secrets and keys, which must be rotated to prevent further misuse. The compromise may persist even after package removal due to additional malicious software installed.

Mitigation Recommendations

Remove the malicious 'true' package from affected systems. Immediately rotate all secrets and keys from a separate, secure computer to prevent unauthorized access. Because the system is fully compromised, consider rebuilding or thoroughly cleaning the affected machines to ensure all malicious components are eradicated.
