AI-suggested

Upgrade to MCP Python SDK version 1.30.0 or later (for 1.x) or 2.2.0 or later (for 2.x). After upgrading, enable 'validate_token_resource=True' in AuthSettings and set 'resource_server_url' to the expected audience. Also, modify 'verify_token()' to return the token's audience as 'AccessToken.resource'. If upgrading is not possible, implement audience validation in your TokenVerifier to reject tokens whose 'aud' claim does not include your server. If your TokenVerifier already performs audience checks, set 'validate_token_resource=False' to suppress deprecation warnings. The setting will default to True in version 3.0.

Description

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) Python SDK versions 1.10.0 through 1.29.1 and 2.0.0 through 2.1.1 have a vulnerability in server-side bearer-token authentication. The SDK does not verify that a token's audience matches the intended server, allowing tokens issued for other services by the same authorization server to be accepted. This can lead to unauthorized access. Fixed in versions 1.30.0 and 2.2.0, the fix requires enabling a new setting to validate the token audience explicitly.
