This vulnerability has been fixed in Thunderbird versions 153.6 and 159. Users and administrators should update affected Thunderbird installations to these versions or later to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation actions are required once the update is applied.
Description
A vulnerability in Thunderbird's calendar discovery process allowed acceptance of calendar locations pointing to other servers, local files, or network shares. This could be exploited by a malicious server or network attacker to make Thunderbird subscribe to such locations. On Windows, this could lead to NTLM credential leakage to an attacker-controlled host on every calendar refresh and allow unauthorized changes to calendars, including overwriting local files or writing to attacker shares. The issue was fixed in Thunderbird versions 153.6 and 159.
