N8n: Duplicate Advisory: DOM-Based XSS via Unsandboxed iframe srcdoc in HTML Preview

Published: 07/22/2026 (07/22/2026, 12:32:18 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: n8n

Description

n8n versions before 1.123.64, 2.x before 2.29.8, and before 2.30.1 contain a DOM-based cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the HTML preview feature. The vulnerability arises because the execution output is rendered into an iframe srcdoc without the sandbox attribute, allowing a sanitizer bypass that enables injected scripts to execute with the same origin as the editor. An attacker with global:member privileges can exploit this by causing a victim to open the preview, enabling the injected script to call authenticated APIs using the victim's session.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in n8n affects versions prior to 1.123.64, 2.29.8, and 2.30.1. It is a DOM-based XSS issue in the HTML preview, where the iframe srcdoc lacks sandboxing. A sanitizer bypass allows malicious scripts to execute with the same origin as the editor, potentially enabling an attacker with global:member privileges to leverage victim sessions to call authenticated APIs. The advisory is a duplicate of GHSA-p3rg-hrf9-w9gj and has been withdrawn accordingly.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker with global:member privileges to execute arbitrary scripts in the context of the editor by bypassing sanitization and iframe sandboxing. This can lead to unauthorized API calls using the victim's authenticated session, potentially compromising data integrity and confidentiality within the n8n environment.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory GHSA-p3rg-hrf9-w9gj for current remediation guidance. Users should upgrade to versions 1.123.64 or later, 2.29.8 or later, or 2.30.1 or later once official fixes are available. Until patched, restrict access to trusted users with global:member privileges and avoid opening untrusted HTML previews.
