N8n: Duplicate Advisory: Stored DOM XSS via Resource Locator `cachedResultUrl`

Published: 07/22/2026 (07/22/2026, 12:32:17 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: n8n

Description

n8n before versions 1.123.64, 2.29.8, and 2.30.1 contains a stored DOM cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Resource Locator component. The vulnerability occurs because the cachedResultUrl parameter is passed to window.open() without validating the URL scheme. An attacker with workflow creation or editing privileges can embed a javascript: scheme in cachedResultUrl, causing malicious scripts to execute in the browser of a user who opens the crafted workflow.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in n8n affects versions prior to 1.123.64, 2.29.8, and 2.30.1. It is a stored DOM XSS issue in the Resource Locator component where the cachedResultUrl parameter is used unsafely with window.open() without proper URL scheme validation. An attacker with privileges to create or edit workflows can insert a javascript: URL scheme in cachedResultUrl. When a victim opens and interacts with the malicious workflow, the embedded script executes in their browser context, leading to potential script-based attacks. This advisory is a duplicate and was withdrawn in favor of GHSA-9wcp-9r3j-383q.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker with workflow creation or editing privileges to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the browsers of users who open the malicious workflow. This can lead to session hijacking, data theft, or other script-based attacks within the context of the affected user's session.

Mitigation Recommendations

The vulnerability is fixed in n8n versions 1.123.64, 2.29.8, and 2.30.1. Users should upgrade to at least these versions to remediate the issue. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
