As a mitigation, implement validation of the device_code parameter in the DeviceCodeGrant.validate_token_request method, similar to the validation performed in AuthorizationCodeGrant. Additionally, ensure that RequestValidator.authenticate_client correctly handles public clients to prevent unauthorized token issuance. Monitor official OAuthLib releases and advisories for an official fix.
Description
OAuthLib contains a vulnerability in its implementation of the OAuth 2.0 device authorization grant (RFC 8628). The token endpoint does not validate the device_code parameter, allowing an attacker who knows a valid client ID with device workflow enabled to obtain a bearer token without a valid device_code. This affects versions 0.11.9 and later. The flaw arises because DeviceCodeGrant.validate_token_request fails to check the validity of the device_code, unlike other grant types. This can lead to unauthorized token issuance for public clients configured for the device grant.
