What to do
AI-suggested
Red Hat has released updated Flatpak packages that fix these vulnerabilities. Users of affected Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.6 Extended Update Support and related variants should apply the Flatpak update (version 1.12.9-4.el9_6.1) as described in the Red Hat advisory (https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258). Applying this update will remediate the arbitrary code execution and arbitrary file deletion vulnerabilities. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
Two security vulnerabilities were identified in Flatpak, a system for sandboxed desktop applications on Linux. The first vulnerability (CVE-2026-34078) allows arbitrary code execution via crafted symbolic links in sandbox-expose options. The second vulnerability (CVE-2026-34079) permits arbitrary file deletion on the host due to improper cache file path validation. Red Hat has issued a security update for Flatpak in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.6 Extended Update Support and related variants to address these issues.
