Red Hat has released updated trivy RPMs (version 0.74.0-0.3.hum1) that fix this vulnerability. Users should apply these updates to mitigate the risk. No additional mitigations are specified by Red Hat.
Description
A vulnerability (CVE-2026-88922) in the go-getter library used by Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs (trivy package) allows a local attacker to escalate privileges by providing a specially crafted archive. When a privileged user extracts this archive, files can be created with elevated permission bits, enabling privilege escalation. The issue is addressed in updated trivy RPMs provided by Red Hat.
