Red Hat has released an updated package for MUNGE in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.0 Update Services for SAP Solutions that fixes this buffer overflow vulnerability. Users should apply the update as described in the Red Hat advisory (https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258) to remediate the issue. No other mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor.
Description
A buffer overflow vulnerability in the MUNGE authentication service's message unpacking functionality allows key leakage and credential forgery. MUNGE is used to authenticate UIDs and GIDs across hosts in a security realm defined by a shared cryptographic key, commonly in HPC cluster environments. This vulnerability could compromise the integrity of authentication credentials within such environments.
