AI-suggested

Until an official fix is released, cluster administrators should avoid granting the cdi.kubevirt.io:view ClusterRole or the built-in Kubernetes view role cluster-wide via ClusterRoleBinding. Instead, use namespace-scoped RoleBindings to limit permissions. Administrators should audit cluster role bindings to identify any identities that have both view-equivalent access and edit/admin access across namespaces, as this combination enables the vulnerability. Applying all previously released errata and updates is recommended. Monitor Red Hat advisories for the availability of an official fix.

Description

CVE-2026-17527 is a vulnerability in Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization v4.17 related to the containerized-data-importer (CDI) component. The aggregated ClusterRole cdi.kubevirt.io:view, intended for read-only access, improperly grants create permission on the datavolumes/source subresource. This allows a user with view role cluster-wide and write access to any namespace to clone and exfiltrate the contents of any PersistentVolumeClaim (PVC) across namespaces, bypassing namespace isolation and read-only guarantees.
