AI-suggested

Red Hat has released updated sudo RPM packages (sudo-1.9.17-16.p2.1.hum1) that fix this vulnerability. Users should apply these updates promptly. If immediate patching is not feasible, disable ptrace-based intercept mode by adding 'Defaults !intercept' to the /etc/sudoers file or a file within /etc/sudoers.d/. Changes to sudoers should be validated with 'visudo' to prevent configuration errors. Disabling intercept mode may affect advanced sudo policy enforcement or logging features that rely on ptrace interception.

Description

A vulnerability in Sudo allows local users authorized to run specific commands to bypass security policy checks when Sudo is operating in ptrace-based intercept mode. By directly invoking the execveat or fexecve system calls, attackers can execute programs that would otherwise be denied by sudo policies, undermining access control and logging. Red Hat has released updated RPM packages to address this issue. Mitigation includes disabling ptrace-based intercept mode by adding 'Defaults !intercept' to the sudoers configuration. This vulnerability affects Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs with sudo versions prior to the fixed update.
