Description

A vulnerability in GitPython's Repo.clone_from() method allows a remote attacker to exfiltrate sensitive environment variables by supplying a specially crafted Git repository URL. This URL can include references to environment variables that are expanded and sent to an attacker-controlled server during cloning, resulting in information disclosure. The issue affects Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs including llvm21 packages. Red Hat has released an update to address this vulnerability.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-67322 is a vulnerability in GitPython where the Repo.clone_from() method improperly handles specially crafted Git repository URLs containing environment variable references. These variables are expanded during the cloning process, enabling an attacker to exfiltrate sensitive environment variables such as access keys or tokens to an attacker-controlled server. This leads to confidentiality breaches without requiring user interaction or privileges. The vulnerability is addressed by updated Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs including llvm21 packages version 21.1.8-8.hum1.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows remote attackers to disclose sensitive environment variables during the Git clone operation, potentially exposing secrets like access keys or tokens. This compromises confidentiality but does not affect integrity or availability. No known exploits in the wild have been reported. The impact is rated high due to the potential exposure of sensitive data.

Mitigation Recommendations

Red Hat has released updated RPM packages (version 21.1.8-8.hum1) for Red Hat Hardened Images including llvm21 components that fix this vulnerability. Users should apply these updates promptly to mitigate the risk. No additional mitigations are specified by the vendor advisory.
