AI-suggested
Fixes are available in Symfony versions 5.4.54, 6.4.46, 7.4.19, and 8.1.7. Users should upgrade to these or later versions to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigation or workaround is indicated. Since this is a vulnerability in the Symfony PHP framework, patching is the recommended and effective remediation.
Description
A vulnerability in Symfony's HeaderUtils::split() function prior to versions 5.4.54, 6.4.46, 7.4.19, and 8.1.7 causes exponential backtracking when parsing certain HTTP header values, specifically the Cache-Control header. This can lead to high CPU usage or denial of service by sending a crafted HTTP request with a header containing runs of whitespace before separators. The issue affects multiple Symfony versions and can be triggered without authentication.
