AI-suggested
Upgrade Apache MINA core to versions 2.0.27, 2.1.10, or 2.2.4 or later. Additionally, explicitly configure the ObjectSerializationDecoder instance to whitelist acceptable classes for deserialization using the provided accept methods (ClassNameMatcher, Pattern, or wildcard patterns). Applications not using IoBuffer#getObject() or the ObjectSerializationCodecFactory filter are not affected. Sub-projects FtpServer, SSHd, and Vysper are not vulnerable. Simply upgrading without configuring class whitelisting is insufficient.
Description
Apache MINA's ObjectSerializationDecoder uses Java native deserialization without adequate security checks, allowing attackers to send malicious serialized data that can lead to remote code execution. This affects MINA core versions 2.0.x, 2.1.x, and 2.2.x. The vulnerability is exploitable only if the application calls IoBuffer#getObject(), typically via ProtocolCodecFilter with ObjectSerializationCodecFactory. Fixed versions 2.0.27, 2.1.10, and 2.2.4 introduce explicit class whitelisting to mitigate the risk. Sub-projects FtpServer, SSHd, and Vysper are not affected.
