A patch is available that adds a 1000-field limit to query-string parsing in Tornado, consistent with the existing POST-body limit. Applying this official fix will cause requests exceeding this limit to be rejected with a 400 Bad Request error, preventing event-loop stalls. Users should upgrade to the fixed Tornado version or apply the recommended code changes. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the patch.
Description
A denial-of-service vulnerability in Tornado's HTTPServerRequest.__init__ method allows an attacker to stall the event loop by sending a GET request with an excessively large number of query-string fields. Unlike POST-body parsing, the query-string parsing lacks a field-count limit, enabling resource exhaustion. This can degrade response times for all clients sharing the same event loop. The issue is fixed by adding a 1000-field limit to query-string parsing, consistent with the POST-body limit.
