AI-suggested

A patch is available in virtualenvwrapper version 21.14.2 that fixes the quoting issue in activate.fish. Users should upgrade to this version or later. As a workaround, avoid creating virtual environments whose path or prompt contains backslashes, and carefully inspect activate.fish scripts before sourcing them if they were not created by you.

Description

A command injection vulnerability exists in virtualenvwrapper's activate.fish script due to improper quoting of environment path and prompt values. This allows an attacker who can influence the environment path or prompt (e.g., via directory names or CI job names) to execute arbitrary commands when sourcing activate.fish. The issue affects all releases up to 21.14.1 that ship activate.fish and was fixed in version 21.14.2 by properly escaping backslashes and single quotes.
