Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CVE-2026-65640) in WordPress allows remote code execution through the upload of malicious Postscript files by users with Author level or higher privileges, given that the server uses Imagick and Ghostscript. The flaw affects all WordPress versions prior to 7.0.4. The vulnerability is mitigated by the fix introduced in WordPress 7.0.4 and backported to all supported branches back to version 4.7.

Potential Impact

An attacker with Author level or higher privileges and the ability to upload files can execute arbitrary code remotely on the affected WordPress server if Imagick and Ghostscript are in use. This can lead to full compromise of the server environment hosting WordPress.

Mitigation Recommendations

Apply the official WordPress update to version 7.0.4 or later. The fix has also been backported to all supported branches back to 4.7. No other mitigation is required as the vulnerability is addressed by these updates.
