| –Not rated | – | Krebs on Security The home appliance giant LG Electronics USA said this week it plans to suspend any apps built for its smart TVs that turn one’s television into an always-on residential proxy node. The move comes less than a month after researchers found that more than 42 percent of games and other apps available for download on LG’s webOS store allow unknown third-parties to route their Internet traffic through a user’s TV. Proxy SDK prevalence among smart TV apps for LG (webOS) and Samsung (Tizen OS) televisions. Image: Spur.us. On July 2, we featured research by the security firm Spur that examined the prevalence of residential proxy software development kits (SDKs) in smart TV apps. Spur found more than 42 percent of apps available for download on LG smart TVs include SDKs that turn one’s television in a proxy node indefinitely, and that more than a quarter of the apps made for Samsung’s Tizen operating system had similar residential proxy components. Responding to questions about Spur’s research, LG Senior Vice President John Taylor told KrebsOnSecurity the company was working with app developers to remove the residential proxy option from their apps on the webOS platform. Developers that fail to comply, he said, will find their apps suspended. “A residential proxy network is not an intended use for LG smart TVs, and LG Electronics is working with developers to remove the residential proxy option from their apps on the webOS platform,” Taylor said. “If this option is not removed, these apps will be suspended.” Taylor said LG is committed to keeping residential proxy networks out of its smart TV apps going forward, and that the company’s review of those apps is “well underway now.” “As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance platform quality and the user experience, LG will continue to strengthen our evaluation process for developer-submitted apps, including those that incorporate residential proxy SDKs,” Taylor wrote in an emailed statement. App makers looking for ways to monetize their creations can turn to residential proxy providers, which pay developers to include SDKs that turn the user’s device into a residential proxy node that is rented to paying customers. In the case of LG and Samsung smart TVs, Spur found residential proxy SDKs bundled with everything from simple games like Pac-Man to screensavers and file utilities. A Pac-Man smart TV app from Bright Data offers users the choice between viewing ads in the game or agreeing to allow their TV to serve as a residential proxy node. Image: Spur.us. Spur’s report found the residential proxy network Bright Data accounted for a majority of proxy SDKs across both Samsung and LG smart TVs. In a statement shared with KrebsOnSecurity, Bright Data said its network is built on consent and responsibility and operates by LG and Samsung terms. “Every peer opts in through a dedicated screen and receives value in return; every customer is vetted, and our practices have now undergone a second independent audit by PwC,” the statement reads. “We remain committed to an open, transparent internet where legitimate businesses, researchers, and institutions can responsibly access data that lives in the public domain.” Bright Data and other proxy providers named in Spur’s report all say they follow rigorous know-your-customer processes to validate legitimate uses of their services, which is often heavily tied to content-scraping activities by said customers. The proxy companies also say they incorporate technological countermeasures to prevent proxy service customers from being able to interact with and control other devices on the proxy user’s local network . Spur argues the problem is not that residential proxy networks exist, but rather that they are being embedded at scale in devices that most consumers do not think of as computers and are not equipped to audit. “A one-time consent prompt buried in a TV app is not a substitute for meaningful transparency, ongoing control, and platform oversight,” Spur’… | Krebs on Security | |||

We have identified two distinct issues: - CVE-2026-16317: Silent Drop of TLS 1.3 Encrypted Records in s2n-tls Missing validation of the outer content_type byte on TLS 1.3 encrypted records in s2n-tls allows an active man-in-the-middle to silently drop individual application data records without either endpoint detecting the modification. RFC 8446 Section 5.2 requires that the outer content_type of all encrypted TLS 1.3 records must be application_data (0x17). The s2n-tls AEAD implementation hardcodes this value in the additional authenticated data rather than using the actual wire byte, so the outer content_type is not covered by the authentication tag. All TLS 1.3 connections are affected. Both TLS clients and servers are affected. TLS 1.2 and QUIC connections are not affected. - CVE-2026-16318: QUIC Transport Parameters Memory Leak During HelloRetryRequest in s2n-tls Incorrect use of s2n_alloc instead of s2n_realloc in the QUIC transport parameters extension handler in s2n-tls causes one memory allocation to be leaked each time a QUIC-enabled TLS 1.3 connection goes through a HelloRetryRequest. This can occur during normal handshakes when a client offers a key share group the server does not prefer, and can lead to increased memory consumption on long-running server processes. Only QUIC-enabled deployments are affected. Impacted versions: <= v1.7.5 Please refer to the article below for the most up-to-date and complete information related to this AWS Security Bulletin. | AWS Security Bulletins | ||

| –Not rated | – | Tenable Research Attackers have shifted from hiding from AI tools to running inside them. By poisoning the config files that govern AI coding assistants, a new worm class achieves silent persistence, evades AI-based scanners, and spreads across an organization's repositories through developers' own tools. Key takeaways AI coding assistant configuration files, such as settings.json hooks, .cursorrules Cursor MDC rules, and similar harness files, are now explicit targets in supply-chain attacks, not collateral damage. These files simultaneously sit at the intersection of three trust relationships: The developer trusts them as config, the integrated development environment (IDE) executes them automatically, and the large language model (LLM) treats them as authoritative instructions, making them a uniquely powerful persistence vector. Defenders should treat harness config files as code that requires mandatory reviews and hash pinning in the CI/CD pipeline; enforce --ignore-scripts on package installs; and flag AI scanner refusals as a suspicious signal rather than a clean result. While analyzing a recent Mini Shai-Hulud campaign and its other variants, Tenable made a discovery: The payload wasn’t just stealing tokens and exfiltrating credentials. It was rewriting the configuration files that tell AI coding assistants what to do every time a developer opens a project. The Mini Shai-Hulud worm, which targets npm, PyPI, and other third-party registries simultaneously, includes a dedicated module that scans the developer’s home directory for configuration files belonging to AI coding tools by name, such as Anthropic’s Claude Code, Google’s Gemini CLI, Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot, SpaceX’s Cursor, OpenAI’s ChatGPT Codex, Cline’s eponymous tool, the open-source tool Aider, and others. For each one it finds, it injects a hook command which helps the malware stay persistent. From that point forward, every time the developer starts an AI coding session, the malware runs silently and automatically, and with the same level of trust the developer placed in their own tools. This is a deliberate architectural choice: The attacker modeled the execution environment, identified the highest-privilege auto-run mechanism available on a developer’s machine, and built the attack specifically for it. Supply-chain attacks used to end at credential theft. Now the AI agent’s harness is both the target and the propagation vector. Why AI agent harness files are a uniquely attractive target For years, defenders have focused supply-chain security on the package itself: Inspect the preinstall script, scan the tarball, verify the checksum. That model assumes the malicious payload lives only inside the installed artifact. The threat described here breaks that assumption: The payload lands in a completely different place. AI coding assistants’ configuration files occupy a structural position unlike any other file in a developer’s working environment. They are simultaneously trusted as developer configuration, so they survive aggressive code reviews focused on business logic; are executed automatically by the IDE, so no user interaction is required after initial compromise; and are treated as authoritative instructions by the AI model itself, so the LLM will act on their content without prompting the user. No other file class has all three properties at once. A malicious package.json script requires execution. A malicious comment in source code requires a developer to act on it. A malicious hook in .claude/settings.json runs every time the developer opens a session. The attack surface is also nearly invisible to conventional scanning. These files are small, structured, and look identical to legitimate developer config. A poisoned settings.json with a malicious SessionStart hook has the same schema and structure as a clean one; the only difference is what the command field points to. Meanwhile, the files are rarely subject to the same review discipline as production code. They live… | Tenable Research | |||

Multiple security firms have confirmed active in-the-wild exploitation within days of public disclosure, and public proof-of-concept exploits are circulating. Key takeaways: Two WordPress Core vulnerabilities, CVE-2026-63030 and CVE-2026-60137, can be chained together to achieve pre-authentication remote code execution against WordPress 6.9.x and 7.0.x installations. Multiple security firms have confirmed in-the-wild exploitation, with public proof-of-concept exploits appearing within hours of the July 17, 2026 disclosure. Patches are available in WordPress 7.0.2 and 6.9.5; WordPress.org has enabled forced automatic updates across affected supported installations. Background Tenable's Research Special Operations (RSO) team has compiled this blog to answer Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) regarding wp2shell, two vulnerabilities in WordPress Core that can be chained together to achieve pre-authentication remote code execution. FAQ What is wp2shell? wp2shell is the name given to two vulnerabilities in WordPress Core. When was wp2shell first disclosed? On July 17, 2026, WordPress released security updates addressing the wp2shell vulnerabilities alongside two GitHub Security Advisories. Adam Kues of Searchlight Cyber, who discovered and disclosed CVE-2026-63030, published research on the same day and chose to hold back the technical specifics given the severity of the finding. Searchlight Cyber also launched wp2shell.com , a testing tool that allows administrators to check whether their WordPress installation is vulnerable. On July 20, Searchlight Cyber published a full technical breakdown of the attack chain. What are the vulnerabilities associated with wp2shell? wp2shell is a two-vulnerability exploit chain affecting WordPress Core. CVE Description CVSSv3 CVE-2026-63030 WordPress Core REST API Batch-Route Confusion Remote Code Execution Vulnerability 9.8 CVE-2026-60137 WordPress Core WP_Query author__not_in SQL Injection Vulnerability 5.9 CVE-2026-63030 is a REST API batch-route confusion weakness introduced in WordPress 6.9. CVE-2026-60137 is a SQL injection flaw in the author__not_in parameter of WP_Query , present in WordPress 6.8 and later. When chained on WordPress 6.9.0 through 7.0.1, the two flaws allow an unauthenticated attacker to reach the REST API batch endpoint at /wp-json/batch/v1 and achieve remote code execution. CVE-2026-60137 was discovered and disclosed by security researchers TF1T, dtro, and haongo. CVE-2026-60137 also affects WordPress 6.8.0 through 6.8.5 as a standalone SQL injection issue. Because CVE-2026-63030 was introduced in WordPress 6.9, the full RCE chain is only achievable on 6.9.x and 7.0.x installations. How severe is the wp2shell vulnerability chain? An anonymous, unauthenticated user can execute the chain against a default WordPress installation with no plugins required. No preconditions exist beyond the default WordPress configuration. Cloudflare notes that the vulnerable code path is reached when “a persistent object cache is not in use.” Note: wp2shell targets WordPress Core itself rather than a plugin or theme. All four prior WordPress-related entries in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog involve plugins, not core. Pre-authentication remote code execution in WordPress Core is uncommon. Jscrambler, a JavaScript code-protection package with more than 15,000 weekly downloads, has experienced a supply chain compromise after stolen npm publishing credentials distributed malicious releases. The packages deployed malware targeting developers’, cloud, browser, cryptocurrency, and messaging credentials. Jscrambler removed the affected versions. Coca-Cola’s US dairy subsidiary Fairlife has confirmed a ransomware attack that temporarily halted production across the United States. Attackers accessed systems supporting manufacturing operations, prompting the company to activate incident response and business continuity procedures. Coca-Cola has not confirmed whether data was exfiltrated in the attack. Nihon Kotsu, Japan’s largest taxi operator, has suffered a malware attack following unauthorized access to its internal network. The company shut down affected systems, disrupting taxi dispatches, telephone services, bookings, reservations, and car rentals from July 11. No theft of customer or corporate information has been confirmed. AI THREATS Researchers identified a China-linked campaign that used Claude Code and DeepSeek to automate attacks against government and financial organizations. The tools generated scripts, adapted failed exploits, created credential-harvesting pages, and executed commands. Confirmed compromises affected government systems in Thailand and Afghanistan and organizations in Taiwan. Researchers found that xAI’s Grok Build coding assistant could upload entire Git repositories while processing debugging requests.
