Malware was primarily distributed in EXE format (95.4%), with a decrease in DLL-SideLoading (4.6%). Notable trends include the emergence of BAT script malware, use of the Wormhole file-sharing service for distribution, and the use of Unicode characters in compression passwords to bypass security measures. The report provides insights into distribution volumes, methods, and disguises based on data collected and analyzed by advanced security systems.
A sophisticated variant of the Masslogger credential stealer malware has been identified spreading through .VBE files. This multi-stage fileless malware heavily relies on Windows Registry to store and execute its malicious payload. The infection begins with a .VBE file, likely distributed via spam email or drive-by downloads. The malware sets up registry keys for storing commands, stager configurations, and the final payload. It establishes persistence through a scheduled task and uses techniques to simulate user input. The malware employs multiple stagers to decode and load the final Masslogger payload, which is injected into the AddInProcess32.exe process. The payload targets multiple web browsers and email clients to steal credentials and sensitive information, with capabilities including keylogging, screen capture, and data exfiltration via FTP, SMTP, or Telegram.

ClipShare is a lightweight and cross-platform tool for clipboard sharing. Prior to 3.8.5, ClipShare Server for Windows uses the default Windows DLL search order and loads system libraries like CRYPTBASE.dll and WindowsCodecs.dll from its own directory before the system path. A local, non-privileged user who can write to the folder containing clip_share.exe can place malicious DLLs there, leading to arbitrary code execution in the context of the server, and, if launched by an Administrator (or another elevated user), it results in a reliable local privilege escalation. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.8.5.
A deceptive email containing a fake Zoom meeting invitation has been identified. Clicking the 'join' button leads to a website prompting users to install a purported Zoom client update. The downloaded executable, 'Session.ClientSetup.exe', is actually malware that installs an MSI package. This package deploys ScreenConnect, a remote access tool, allowing attackers to gain unauthorized access to the victim's computer. The malware establishes persistence by installing itself as a service and connects to a command and control server at tqtw21aa.anondns.net on port 8041. Users are advised to exercise caution when receiving unexpected Zoom invitations or update prompts.
A local privilege escalation in the razer_elevation_service.exe in Razer Synapse 4 through 4.0.86.2502180127 allows a local attacker to escalate their privileges via a vulnerable COM interface in the target service.
A recent campaign attributed to APT36 has been observed spoofing India's Ministry of Defence to deliver cross-platform malware. The attackers used a ClickFix-style infection chain, mimicking government press releases and leveraging a compromised .in domain for payload staging. The campaign targeted both Windows and Linux users, employing clipboard-based execution techniques. On Windows, the attack utilized mshta.exe to execute a heavily obfuscated HTA file, while on Linux, it attempted to execute a shell script. The tradecraft observed, including government-themed lures, HTA-based delivery, and decoy documents, aligns with known APT36 tactics. This activity demonstrates the continued evolution of ClickFix techniques in new contexts.
Cybercriminals are exploiting the US tax season to deploy Stealerium malware, targeting citizens through sophisticated phishing campaigns. The attack utilizes deceptive email attachments with malicious LNK files, leading to the execution of PowerShell scripts and the download of a PyInstaller-packaged executable. This payload injects into mstsc.exe and deploys Stealerium, an information-stealing malware that exfiltrates sensitive data from browsers, cryptocurrency wallets, and popular applications. The malware employs anti-analysis techniques, creates a hidden directory, and registers with a command and control server. It steals credentials from various sources, including browsers, gaming platforms, and messaging apps, while also capturing webcam images and Wi-Fi passwords.
A series of attacks targeting poorly managed MS-SQL servers have been identified, involving the installation of Ammyy Admin, a remote control tool. The attackers exploit vulnerable servers, execute commands to gather system information, and use WGet to install additional malware. The installed malware includes Ammyy Admin (mscorsvw.exe), its settings file (settings3.bin), and PetitPotato (p.ax). The attackers utilize an old version of Ammyy Admin (v3.10) and employ known exploitation methods to gain remote control. They also use PetitPotato for privilege escalation, adding new users and activating RDP services. To prevent such attacks, administrators are advised to use strong passwords, update software regularly, and implement security measures like firewalls.
