A cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists in the view_component Ruby on Rails framework versions from 4.0.0 up to but not including 4.12.0. The issue arises because ViewComponent::Base#around_render can return HTML-unsafe strings that bypass normal escaping, and ViewComponent::Collection#render_in can mark combined output as safe, potentially exposing user-controlled data. This vulnerability is fixed in version 4.12.0.

A race condition vulnerability exists in the view_component Ruby on Rails framework versions 4.0.0 up to but not including 4.12.0. The issue arises because ViewComponent::Base instances retain render-scoped objects across calls to render_in, causing stale context to be reused across requests or threads. This can lead to unauthorized UI rendering, leaking of request context, and mixing of state between users. The vulnerability is fixed in version 4.12.0.

A vulnerability in the view_component Ruby on Rails framework versions 3.0.0 through 4.8.x allows route access to inherited public methods on ViewComponent::Preview due to insufficient validation of preview example method names. This enables attackers to invoke methods like render_with_template with parameters from the request, potentially rendering internal Rails templates that are not normally accessible. The issue is fixed starting in version 4.9.0.

view_component is a framework for building reusable, testable, and encapsulated view components in Ruby on Rails. From 3.0.0 to 4.9.0, the system test entrypoint canonicalizes a user-controlled file path with File.realpath, then checks whether the resolved path starts with the temp directory path. This is not a safe containment check because sibling directories can share the same string prefix. This vulnerability is fixed in 4.9.0.
