LibHTP is a security-aware parser for the HTTP protocol and the related bits and pieces. Prior to version 0.5.49, unbounded processing of HTTP request and response headers can lead to excessive CPU time and memory utilization, possibly leading to extreme slowdowns. This issue is addressed in 0.5.49.

CVE-2024-45797 is a vulnerability classified under CWE-770 (Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling) affecting libhtp, a widely used HTTP protocol parser developed by the Open Information Security Foundation (OISF). Libhtp is integral to parsing HTTP requests and responses in various security products, including intrusion detection and prevention systems like Suricata. Prior to version 0.5.49, libhtp does not impose limits on the processing of HTTP headers, which can be crafted maliciously to cause excessive CPU and memory consumption.
