Stack buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the Supermicro BMC Shared library. An authenticated attacker with access to the BMC exploit stack buffer via a crafted  header and achieve arbitrary code execution of the BMC’s firmware operating system.

CVE-2025-8404 is a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability identified in the Supermicro BMC Shared library specifically affecting the MBD-X13SEDW-F motherboard version 01.03.48. The vulnerability arises from improper handling of a crafted header by the BMC firmware, allowing an authenticated attacker with access to the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) to overflow a stack buffer. This overflow can lead to arbitrary code execution within the BMC’s firmware operating system, potentially allowing the attacker to manipulate firmware behavior, disrupt system availability, or maintain persistent unauthorized control over the hardware management layer. The BMC is a critical component responsible for out-of-band management of servers, including power cycling, hardware monitoring, and remote console access.
