Red Hat Directory Server 12.2 for RHEL 9.2 has multiple critical security vulnerabilities including heap buffer overflow, pre-authentication NULL pointer dereference, privilege escalation via SASL PLAIN authentication, command injection in the Cockpit LDAP editor, and bypass of bind-rule checks by anonymous LDAP clients. These issues affect the 389-ds-base component and can lead to denial of service, privilege escalation, and unauthorized access. Red Hat has released an update addressing these vulnerabilities.

Multiple critical vulnerabilities have been identified and fixed in the 389 Directory Server (389-ds-base), an LDAPv3 compliant server used for directory services. These include a heap buffer overflow via SASL wrapped-record length underflow, a pre-authentication NULL pointer dereference, privilege escalation through SASL PLAIN authentication, and bypass of SELFDN ACI bind-rule checks by anonymous LDAP clients. The issues affect Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 variants and related packages. A security update addressing these vulnerabilities is available from Red Hat.

CVE-2026-76560 is a vulnerability in 389 Directory Server that allows an anonymous LDAP client to bypass SELFDN ACI bind-rule checks when the target attribute can hold an empty value. This flaw enables unauthorized modification or addition of directory entries that should be restricted to authenticated users. The issue arises because the bind-rule evaluator incorrectly matches an empty bind DN against an empty stored attribute value. Red Hat Directory Server does not ship with vulnerable ACIs by default, so the impact depends on specific deployment configurations. A security update addressing this vulnerability is available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Extended Lifecycle Support.
