CVE-2026-90948 is a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in GIMP's ICO file loader on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. The flaw arises from an integer overflow during buffer size calculation when processing ICO files with embedded PNG images, leading to an undersized buffer allocation. A remote attacker could exploit this by crafting a malicious ICO file, potentially causing arbitrary code execution or a crash upon opening the file. Red Hat has not provided a fix or mitigation that meets their criteria for ease of use, applicability, or stability.
