CVE-2024-43853 is a Use-After-Free (UAF) vulnerability in the Linux kernel's cgroup cpuset subsystem. It occurs when reading /proc/cpuset due to a race condition between mounting and unmounting cpuset cgroups, which can lead to accessing freed memory. The issue arises because the root cgroup's css can be referenced after its associated cgroup_root has been freed during unmount operations. This vulnerability has been fixed by introducing RCU locking in proc_cpuset_show() to prevent the UAF condition.
