CVE-2024-41058 is a high-severity use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's cachefiles subsystem, specifically in the fscache_withdraw_volume() function. The flaw occurs when the reference count of an fscache_volume object reaches zero but the object is still accessed, leading to a slab-use-after-free condition. This issue was discovered during fault injection stress testing and can cause kernel memory corruption. The vulnerability has been fixed by introducing a helper function to safely check and manage the reference count before accessing the object.
