CVE-2024-50099 addresses a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's arm64 architecture related to uprobes support for LDR (literal) and LDRSW (literal) instructions. The existing simulate_ldr_literal() and simulate_ldrsw_literal() functions, originally designed for kprobes, are unsafe for uprobes because they perform plain C memory accesses without proper fault handling, leading to kernel thread termination or system instability. The kernel now rejects attempts to place uprobes on these instructions to avoid these issues.
