A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's UDF file system implementation allowed crafted UDF images with oversized CRC length descriptors to bypass CRC validation. This flaw caused the kernel to skip proper CRC verification, accepting descriptors based only on an 8-bit tag checksum, which is easily recomputable. The issue has been resolved by rejecting such descriptors. The vulnerability affects certain Linux kernel versions prior to specific patched releases.
