The flaw occurs when processing malformed ASN.1-encoded Kerberos password change requests, causing the server to read beyond the allocated buffer. This typically results in a decryption failure but can cause the KDC process to crash if unmapped memory is accessed. An authenticated attacker can exploit this by sending a crafted kpasswd request, potentially causing a denial of service.
