CVE-2024-46781 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's nilfs2 filesystem code. It occurs during mount-time recovery when an error happens before the log writer starts creating a recovered checkpoint. In this scenario, inodes that had their data recovered remain improperly referenced in the ns_dirty_files list and are not freed, leading to a resource management flaw.
