CVE-2024-42313 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's media subsystem, specifically in the venus video decoder driver (vdec_close function). The flaw occurs when the decoder device is closed randomly from userspace during normal decoding, potentially causing a read after free condition due to asynchronous buffer release work queued by firmware callbacks. This vulnerability has been fixed by cancelling the queued work in the vdec_close function.
