The npm package cindy-sambalado96-apidev contains malicious code linked to the tea.xyz token reward campaign, which flooded npm with over 15,000 spam packages in 2024. These packages include autopublish scripts that automatically generate and publish derivative packages with randomized Indonesian-themed names. The malicious payload manipulates package.json files by removing private flags, altering version numbers, and continuously republishing variants to inflate developer reputation scores and pollute the npm registry.
