The npm package eka-soto21-ruro contains malicious code linked to the tea.xyz token reward campaign that flooded the npm registry with over 15,000 spam packages in 2024. This malware uses autopublish scripts to automatically generate and publish derivative packages with randomized names, aiming to inflate developer reputation scores for token rewards. The malicious payload modifies package.json files by removing private flags, altering version numbers, and generating random Indonesian-themed package names, continuously republishing variants to pollute the npm registry.
