The npm package bella-semur20-riris contains malicious code linked to the tea.xyz token reward campaign, which flooded npm with over 15,000 spam packages in 2024. The malicious payload includes autopublish scripts that automatically generate and publish derivative packages with randomized names to inflate developer reputation scores for tea protocol token rewards. This payload modifies package.json files by removing private flags, changing version numbers, generating random Indonesian-themed package names, and continuously republishing variants to pollute the npm registry.
