The npm package cindy-tek7-sukiwir was identified as containing malicious code linked to the tea.xyz token reward campaign. This campaign flooded the npm registry with over 15,000 spam packages in 2024. The malicious code includes autopublish scripts that automatically generate and publish derivative packages with randomized Indonesian-themed names. These scripts modify package.json files to remove private flags, alter version numbers, and continuously republish variants to inflate developer reputation scores for token rewards. This activity pollutes the npm registry with spam and potentially deceptive packages.
