The npm package citra-sate14-ruro contains malicious code linked to the tea.xyz token reward campaign that flooded npm with over 15,000 spam packages in 2024. These packages include autopublish scripts that automatically generate and publish derivative packages with randomized names to inflate developer reputation scores for token rewards. The malicious payload modifies package.json files to remove private flags, alters version numbers, and continuously republishes variants with random Indonesian-themed names, causing pollution of the npm registry.
